Again, I must apologise for the lack of content. During those three days when NUMA was either down or not working at capacity, only about half a day's worth of maps was made. That and I guess there just wasn't much out there I liked this week. I hope you enjoy it anyway.

The Daily Rundown
January 14th to January 20th

January 14th

We honestly had a fucking ripper to start off the week, though. Barrrrrrabajagallll!

January 19th

Strangely, I think this is the second time funman has been featured, even though he's not a particularly prominent author. Oh well, this map was very fun, man.

January 20th

Hmm, I don't think there have been very many good mine jumpers since I started this, and I suppose this isn't really one, but I liked it all the same.

Wow. This map is definitely a better one from Evil_Bob.

Maps of the Week

  1. Barabajagal - daffodil complex
  2. Evil_Bob - Burning Down The House.
  3. funman - *o*
  4. Tempus_Fugit - Slippery People

Level Packs

meatstro, one of our NUMA overlords, released his first map pack ever this week. Described as eclectic by himself, it's definitely worth a look.

All-in-One

apg has outdone himself with his All-in-One map pack thread. Although not currently definitive, it's very nearly there, and a very valuable resource. Great work.

Nterviewed

By Tanner Rogalsky

"Given my predecessors, I feel I should be involved in 2 dozen projects." - Kashkin

I may have given the wrong impression about what Nterviewed is about. Sure, a part of it is yours. If you'd like to say something important, hit me up and I will do my best to help you out. But most of it is mine. This is me, talking to people that I find interesting and enjoyable. I enjoy this, probably more than you do. Kashkin didn't think he really had that much to talk about but he was dead wrong. Check this dude out.

Tanner: How did you choose the aliases you go by? Does the name Red Reamer have a sexual insinuation?
Kashkin: Sigh. No, it does not have any sexual connotations. RR was first and foremost my Xbox Live alias. I think I combined a few of the randomly generated suggestions until I got Red Reamer. I've had... a lot of aliases in the past. Knife & a Half, The Ill Nar Nar, Inanimate, Aramanthster, shgoaghoiag... I'm happy I've found something that's stuck. Kashkin is a by-product of my past infatuation with Russia and the Russian language. Basically I wanted a name that sounded Russian.

Tanner: Are you planing anything exciting for the next little while?
Kashkin: Well, the most exciting thing by far is the upcoming map-pack I’ve headed, due to be released on the 25th. It's codenamed ASF, and includes some of my favourite map-makers. The main contributors are Aju, astheoceansblue, Barabajagal, Clovic, and of course, myself. There are also some special guests (*wink*), including spect, who makes his debut in a map-pack.

Tanner: What was your thought process behind beginning a map pack?
Kashkin: Mostly, I felt like I could. Prior to ASF, I was semi-retired as a map-maker, due to lack of "creative juice." And now I have, in the words of KinGAleX, "Enough map sperm in the scrotal sacs of creativity." Essentially, ASF is a non-episodic collection that brought together a bunch of people I enjoy talking to and working with.

Tanner: What do you see as being your primary role in the community?
Kashiekins: Well, for the last few months, I’ve been rather focused on imaging. I'm not active in any of the big projects, or in NUMA. I made a joke recently that I should be the community’s "Artistic Director." The responses were either laughter or silence, so I'm probably still hampered by my complete lack of artistic talent (Photoshopping is not the same). I'm not even "that guy that always agrees with Dave" anymore. I'll settle for being a ... Slutiopath. Or whatever.

Tanner: Why did you make a new forum skin?
Kashkin: Why not? I saw a few tutorials on the subject, and figured we could use a new look. Really though, there was no primary motivator. I just did it. Thanks to the co-operation of jtbandes and Pembie, of course with input from Keron Cyst, there's a good chance the skin will be implemented, but I'll leave all that for a later date (i.e. When it happens :P ).

Tanner: Where do you find most of the pictures you use to create your images?
Kashkin: Google-image search. Where else? Your panda is from weebls-stuff, of course. Some of the stuff I make myself, usually via a tutorial on the subject.

Tanner: How much time to you normally spend on making an image?
Kashkin: Depends. On whom the image is for, the mood I'm in, how interesting the request itself is and whether my first draft is any good. I have a strange form of patience concerning projects that others might consider mind-numbingly boring. So, generally more than 30 minutes and anywhere up to 3 hours or more. On average, probably 40 minutes. Do you remember the Untitled Epic, LittleViking's ASCII story? I spent a day on that project. Literally, about 14 hours.

Tanner: Do you have any advice for someone who wants to experiment with making images?
Kashkin: Tutorials and patience. That is essentially how I got to be where I am (where ever that is). I'm not particularly gifted, but I do have an inordinate amount of patience.

Tanner: Which song would you most enjoy making love to?
Kashkin: It amuses me that this is not even the third or fourth time I’ve had this conversation. I used to say Stellar by Incubus, and I would –still– enjoy that, especially the acoustic version. Perhaps even To Be Alone With You by Sufjan Stevens. Ultimately though, I’m going to have to take sides with both the song Let’s Play Guitar in a Five Guitar Band by Minus the Bear and my Canadian friend Vanessa; Jazz. She suggested It Never Entered My Mind by Miles Davis, which I think is particularly sexy (the suggestion and as a result, Vanessa). So that, or something from the album Kind of Blue.

See? Next week will be a little different. Borealis and SlappyMcGee. Two men. Two interviews. One week. Write it down. Make it so. Bye.
