You generally shouldn't use launchpads to try and speed the ninja up in races - they actually break up the flow and slow him down. Also, try experimenting with shapes to make better flow. An E/1 slope doesn't create a great deal of speed. Smoother surfaces and gradual slopes are much better for race flow.
