Description Please, I just need feedback to what I'm doing wrong. Is the tileset messed up? Is the enemy placement bad? What am I doing wrong in this situation? Please, I need constructive criticism.

cool

I know that you may not pay any attention to some of the complaints that people give you, and that maybe there are a few minor flaws that you could fix, BUT these race levels are some of the best that I have ever played!!!
Keep it up!!!
5/5
(I'm not even going to bother making my own, because I know that I can't create a race level that's even half as fun!)

flagmyidol

because if I recommended everyone it would be pointless. I recommened some of the authors that are wildely considered to be the best NUMA has been home to.

Not sure why you have a problem with me helping people, tbh. Perhaps you should try it in your next comment instead of just throwing pebbles at people?

several things

atob: just recommend everyone why don't you
mintnut: get over yourself
magirocker: agreed
riobe: too constricted, NR

I hated two points

well... hated, did not like two points

1. thwump #2
2. mine #8

talking about which comes when.

Nothing...

there is absolutely nothing wrong with this map.
Why? Who sais it is :(. I hate that guy!

No, seriously your maps are awesome.
And I want to know how you get such a long AND good race map.
it's just not special/

Oh,

and that mintnut character made a good race map or too back in the ancient times of numa. You should probably check him out, he's quite a charmer,

Yes, thank you

I'll try to keep that in mind. I go away for a few hours, and come back to see this with 11 votes!!!
Authors such as: Barabajagal, Stepself, Sendy, Krusch, tktktk, lord_day, evil_bob,
maximo, littleviking001, nevermore, lucidium etc...

If you look somwhere near the middle of each of their archives you'll find what I consider their general peaks. Of course, they've great stuff throughout, but I reckon you'll find the more consistant examples of individuality and expert design around the mid-points.

oh oh

hmm

I do think though that it's a good idea to look at some other good race makers to see what their maps are like. Check out

not every great race maker, maybe not the best, but I like all of these guy's races :) playing those will keep you busy for a while lol

Riobe

has some of the most generic thumbnails on NUMA. There's absolutely nothing that separates the play, look or feel of any of these from a hundred other authors.

Originality isn't everything, but if you're really asking for ways to improve I'd start listening more to the users who highlight the major flaws and work to remedy them.

Take a look at the mappers the community in general consider to be the best, not just those who hand out 5/5s to each other.
Basically, think about airtime. your races have lots of things where you do a jump, hit a tile above you, and then quickly land on another flat tile in perhaps even the next space. in this mpa you have a bit more falling action, but try for a more open race, with a less caverny/mazey feel and more open.

something like...
http://nmaps.net/127485 (I just used one of destiny's for an example) this clearly has a very different atmosphere from your maps, its much more open and free :)

basically maybe try to vary it up a bit and work away from the cave type of races you make, but don't lose your own personal style ;D

one more thing, I can always identify your maps by the thumbnail (I mean for like da_mans and destiny's I usually can too) but go back and look at your races you'll see what I mean, just by looking at the thumbnail even the flow is so clearly defined and I know basically where the path is... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in your case #1 it makes all of your races look/FEEL pretty much the same #2 its not as exciting if it seems so planned out and.... boxed in I guess

hope this helps, keep going with your races but try some cool new ideas in some, soon enough there'll be one which is really good and you can try to integrate a bit more of that style or w/e

upper right

thwump needs to be taken out, it is just too annoying to get past, but other than that this maps great

Ok.

um im kinda a noob so i have no idea what your talking about...... Ned.... demo levels... ? like were you MAKE levels?
But it was so ridiculously hard that i didn't want to submit it. Ok, I'll try that...RIGHT NOW!!!!!
But oft I feel that occasionally they feel a bit too formulaic. I do suggest you make your races more open, you know, less tiles, more long jumps. Sort of like the entire left side of crazy miner (http://nmaps.net/7713). A curvy path doesn't always have the best flow.

You don't do anything glaringly wrong with your races, you just could use some more variety in them.

So

I'm supposed to leave some space for different tileset designs. And not make it so that the entire track is part of the path? Plus, I have to make races a little shorter, but not have the path overlap too much?

Your major problem

is stretching out a map too far. Your mechanics are fine (if a little generic) but the repetition and length go against any want to replay.

Not always, but enough to be called on it. Also, as mentioned, your designs don't really stand out. Everything plays well but overall your maps are a very average experience.

Be aware that repetition with greater length stifles gameplay and try to break away from conventional design a little.

Ummm...

Actually, there is only 1 almost full loop, and 1300 frames is long? Plus, I didn't really put any random enemies down, accept maybe the floor guard. What kinda race would you call a good race?

See, I have a different opinion. You make the map go on for too long. Desperately trying to make the ninja go anywhere possible. But it really ruins the flow. First think of theme for your tiles. Keep that theme and make something that looks nice. Your races are really generic they are all the same. Just loop, loop, loop, close call with a thwump, random enemy. Keep trying.

You're

doing nothing wrong (in my opinion) but one thing. The second thump you meet. It's extremely annoying (for me) to get past that, and perhaps its better if it is changed to something else?
4.5/5 rounded up to 5/5, faved

IMO...

nice flow, easy (just the upper right thwump killed me many more times then other hazards), funny like other race maps... enjoyed it
