Per example you didn't need such an open zone, where the "X" is. Something more closed, a smaller zone would make it much more of a challenge.
You could make a gauss turret on the end of that upward tunnel (the one that has only gold on it), so it would be harder to get the gold.
The tileset isn't great too.
