Theres not much I can say

The only possible ways to take a screenshot are:

PrtSc: gives you a complete snapshot
Ctrl+PrtSc: Same as PrtSc, gives you a whole-screen snapshot, toolbars and everything
Alt+PrtSc: gives you a snapshot of the window only. No toolbars.

For some reason on my laptop, doing the first two gives a inverted version of my desktop picture to the side, I'm not sure if this happens anywhere else.

I cant really help you more. Perhaps press Alt+PrtSc twice? remember, its Alt, THEN PrtSc. Try doing that, then wait 3 seconds, then do it again.
