One GOOD way to learn about maps and map making is to study the maps that came with the game and ones made on NUMA. For instance, most folks HATE hidden objects and will rate poorly most maps that use them (a few rare exceptions). If a map takes longer to load than it does to complete, that will also likely cause a few tempers to soar.
In other words, do some research and read the comments on NUMA and on the boards (link on the left). And, the best advice of all? Just keep making maps and LEARN from your mistakes. Take the comments with a grain of salt and learn what you can from them.
