The concept you used is great, and never unpleasing, but I think you missed a few things to bring the map up to its full potential.
A wee bit more space in general would be nice for this map, otherwise it makes getting into that other little room (with the switch) not as fun. If there no fun in getting the switch, why bother getting it?
Don't feel dissappointment in not managing to make your map like another players, your map is never going to be exactly their style (unless you copy the entire map, of course)
You have your own style, use that instead.
